Support Charters During this Funding Threat
July 10, 2009
Charter School Families and Staff,
Once again, we need your help. Current legislative efforts in Harrisburg are threatening our charter and cyber charter schools. We must come together and raise a united voice to send a clear and resonating message to our lawmakers in Harrisburg to protect school choice in Pennsylvania!
Three bills in the General Assembly threaten current charter and cyber charter education funding. Representative Barbara McIlvaine Smith recently introduced HB 1802. Representative Karen Beyer also re-introduced HB 446 as HB 940. Both bills attempt to reduce charter school funding in the following two areas: special education funding cuts for all charter schools and tuition caps that will severely cut funding of only cyber charter schools.
Please take immediate action by asking your legislators to protect existing charter school funding.
For your convenience, we have included a fax letter that you can sign and forward on to your legislator using the link below. Please add your own personal comments about the importance of charter schools for your family.
Decisions made in Harrisburg impact the entire charter school community. It is critical for our survival that we join together as a movement to fight the Governor's push to reduce funding to charter schools. Remember, "united we stand, divided we fall."
Sincerely,
Lawrence F. Jones, Jr., President
