Elections Come to NFCS
November 5, 2008
November 4th was an important day for the United States, and for NFCS. This day was our 9th annual election for Student Council positions. Throughout the morning, students gathered in the new lecture hall to hear from the student candidates.
There were speeches made by each candidate for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as a debate-style discussion. Students from Mr. Samuel’s “Elections and Other Hot Topics” elective brainstormed questions for the candidates, and appointed 8th grader De’Shaan Corbin to serve as the moderator. Following the student speeches and candidate discussions, students had the chance to vote for their candidate at lunch. Students got to cast their ballots for the school’s new Student Council officials as well as participated in a mock US election. But some who didn’t register to vote during the days before were turned away---a good lesson for the future!
Congratulations to our new school President Becky Blaich, Vice President Dennis McGovern, Secretary Glen Hampton, and Treasurer Eric Massino. A special thanks to the students in Mr. Samuel’s elective for organizing the elections and making the day a big success!
