Join Robotics
(Middle School and High School)

All robotics programs are closed for the 2016-2017 school year.

Middle School:

First Lego League students in 5th – 8th grade build and program Lego robots to solve a range of challenges.  Robots operate on their own, with no driver control.  It’s a fun introduction to robotics.

Season: Late October to January
Competitions: 1-2 per season (Saturdays)
Cost to Participate: FREE!
Coach (2017-2018): TBD

Middle School:

Middle School students build complex robots from plastic parts.  Students join in alliances with robots from other teams to score the most points together as they complete a challenge.  Robots operate by themselves or under driver control.  VexIQ is great preparation for the high school Vex Robotics Competition team, and high school students mentor the VexIQ students.

The 2017-2018 game is Ringmaster!  Check out the 2017-2018 video and game manual.

Season: Late October to February
Competitions: 1-2 per season (Saturdays)
Cost to Participate: $35
(Includes shirt, transportation to all competitions, and all supplies)
Coaches (2017-208): TBD

High School:

Students build sophisticated Vex competition robots from metal parts.  Students compete against robots from other teams to score the most points in a fast-paced, highly competitive challenge.  Robots must operate both by themselves and under driver control.  All team members must take or have taken PLTW courses in engineering and/or computer science.  Most team members want to pursue careers in engineering or programming.

Season: Late September to March
Competitions: 4-5 per season (Saturdays)
Cost to Participate: $75
(Includes shirt, transportation to all competitions, and all supplies)
Coaches (2017-2018): Mr, Persons (head coach)
Other Requirements:
  • Currently or previously enrolled in a high school PLTW class in engineering and/or computer science
  • Participate in Vex JV the year before

High School:

Vex JV is a non-competitive team of students learning the basics of building and programming a Vex competition robot.  To gain familiarity with the competition environment, JV students must volunteer as managers for the competition team at a minimum of one Saturday tournament (home or away).  JV meets as needed in the early part of the year to support the competition team.  In January, JV begins meeting weekly as they build their own robots.

Season:  October to March
Competitions: volunteer at a minimum of one Saturday tournament (home or away)
Cost to Participate: $75
(Includes shirt and all supplies)
Coach (2017-2018): Mr. Persons
