2019 Summer Work Resources
Below are the 2019 Summer Required Activities all NFCS K-12 Students must complete prior to returning in the Fall/August. Please download the packet and/or handout for the grade your child is entering into for the 2019-2020 school year.
High School: Incoming Grades 9 through 12 Summer read includes “Ask Me No Questions” by Marina Budhos. (NFCHS-2019-Summer-Reading-Letter)
Middle School: Incoming 6th Grade Incoming 7th Grade Incoming 8th Grade
Grades 3 to 5: Incoming 3rd Grade Incoming 4th Grade Incoming 5th Grade
Grades K to 2: Incoming Kindergarten Incoming 1st Grade Incoming 2nd Grade
NFCS is the only school in Philadelphia able to offer students an engineering curriculum from Kindergarten through 12th grade. The emphasis in this curriculum is on problem-based group learning, while also becoming familiar with the engineering design process.
For K-5, we offer the PLTW Launch program. This includes two modules over a 4-week period during the school year.
For 6-8 grades, we offer the PLTW Gateway program. This consists of one 9-week module each school year, and takes place during science class. We currently offer the following modules: Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling, and Introduction to Computer Science.
For our high school students, we have year-long courses, and are looking to offer Engineering and Computer Science pathways. Our current courses are: Introduction to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, and Computer Science Essentials AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science Applications.
