THE NEW FOUNDATIONS CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL
CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
NHS Administrators will be appointed before the end of September by our new high school principals. The 2017-2018 Officers will be elected in the first quarter. Please check back for updates.
Selection for membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is open to juniors and seniors who are designated as eligible in the chapter bylaws. Candidates must have been in attendance at the high school the previous semester. Selection for the National Honor Society will be based on the following criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
In the June, the NHS advisor will obtain a list of the sophomores who have a minimum career/cumulative grade point average of 3.4. The Advisor will then distribute a Student Information Form so that all students may list their school and community activities as well as school and community service. The selection and eligibility process will begin throughout September and formal invitations will be issued to qualifying sophomores and juniors in October. Induction will take place in October/November for the new school year.
Responsibilities, Meetings, and Community Service Hours
Membership in the NFCHS chapter of the National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. Students selected for membership are expected to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character by which they are selected.
Meetings are held monthly. The NHS president or chapter advisor may call special meetings. Attendance is mandatory! If there are two unexcused absences, a warning will be given. If more than two unexcused absences occur, dismissal from the Chapter is possible
Community Service Hours are required of each member. A total of 10 hours are needed to fulfill this requirement. NHS members will be expected to attend and serve as school ambassadors at major school sponsored functions including but not limited to: Open House, Conferences, New Student Orientation, Annual Raffle, Home and School Sponsored Events, Graduation, and/or other Charitable Events.
